New Winter Storm Could Slow Early Travelers Heading To Super Bowl 50

DENVER (CBS4) - It's been an awesome week of late January weather across Colorado and much of the west, but as the old saying goes 'all good things must come to an end.'
A new storm system is getting ready to move on shore in the west and that means a downward turn in the weather as we head into the upcoming weekend and early next week.
For all of the early Super Bowl 50 travelers, either by land or air, this storm might mean some potential travel trouble.
TIMING OF THE STORM
By Friday the storm will already be producing heavy rain and snow across northern California with clouds on the increase as far away as western Colorado.
Snow will begin to spread into the Colorado Rockies as early as Saturday and it will last well into next week.
In addition to the potential for rough mountain conditions things could get pretty dicey for both land and air travel out of Denver too.
Current forecast models show a strong area of low pressure developing somewhere in the vicinity of southeast Colorado by Monday night as the storm system begins to cross the Central Rockies.
Depending on where this happens and the vertical structure of the low pressure system, eastern Colorado could be in for a period of heavy snow and strong wind starting sometime on Monday and lasting into Tuesday.
