New Website Helps Save At The Supermarket

Written by Suzanne McCarroll
DENVER (CBS4) - Consumers all have the same answer to CBS4's question: Do you notice your grocery bill going up each week? The answer is always yes.

Higher gas prices are sending delivery costs soaring meaning that supermarkets need to pass that increase onto shoppers.

A mother with a grocery cart filled to the brim told CBS4's Suzanne McCarroll she paid $200 this week, which is $50 more than her usual trip to the market.

Coloradoan Barney Strobel has started a website called www.groceryace.com. It's a simple site that tracks the sales at King Soopers, Safeway and Walmart. Only a portion of sale items are listed in the weekly inserts in newspapers. The site is designed to offer shoppers more help, listing 45 or more items, and comparing their sale prices.

Consumers also point out another way to save by spending $100 at King Soopers. That qualifies shoppers to get 10 cents off each gallon of gas bought there (up to 35 gallons).
