New Waiting Area, Food Court Coming To DIA
DENVER (CBS4) - Drivers who frequently pick people up at Denver International Airport will be pleased to hear of improvements in the works for the vehicle waiting area on Pena Boulevard near the terminal.
DIA officials said they will be adding a food court, free Wi-Fi and a board with flight information. They will also expand the number of parking spaces and feature full restrooms instead of porta-potties.
Airport spokeswoman Julie Smith told CBS4 the idea for the improvement came about when Mayor Michael Hancock was doing a guest appearance on a radio show.
"The mayor actually got a call when he was doing a talk show months ago with someone asking about what was going on with the 45 minute waiting area. And so from that suggestion we listened, and so we're making improvements to improve the experience here at DIA," Smith said.
The new waiting area will have 165 spaces. The current lot has 113 spaces.
The plan is for the food court to feature Dunkin Donuts, Subway, Baja Fresh and Z Pizza.
Construction is expected to be finished by the fall.
