New Elementary School Focuses On Creativity, Challenge, Community

DENVER (CBS4)- The Denver Public Schools dedicated a new elementary school on Thursday. C3 stands for Creativity, Challenge and Community.

The students showed off that creativity with a dance they performed to dedicate the school located at 1551 S. Monroe Street.

Principal Julia Shepherd said she helped create C3 so elementary students can experience real-world learning through partnerships with the business and artistic community.

Along with traditional ribbon cutting, students gave DPS Superintendent Tom Boasberg a gold medal for his creative efforts in supporting the new concept.

DPS Chief Operating Officer David Suppes also received a gold medal along with Denver Board of Education member Anne Rowe.

C3 was approved to open by the DPS Board of Education to help address elementary seat capacity issues in the southeast region of the city.

Students from all regions of the city are enrolled at C3, which is located on the Merrill Campus in Southeast Denver, co-shared with Merrill Middle School.

Opening this school year with kindergarteners through second-graders, C3 will eventually serve grades K-5.
