Names Of People Hurt In Playground Crash Released
LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - The names of the three people who were hurt Friday night when a truck careened into a playground have been released.
Matthew Maccord, 20, and Robert Husak, 19, were sitting on a bench at about 3:30 p.m. when the landscaping truck went off the road smashed into the playground and blindsided them.
The crash happened at Whisper Creek Apartments on 3505 S. Nelson Circle, close to the intersection of Kipling and Hampden.
"The truck was headed east on South Nelson Circle when it failed complete a left turn in the road. The truck came off the right side of the road," officials with the Colorado State Patrol wrote in a news release.
No children were injured, but the two men were severely hurt. Husak was pinned under the truck for a short time and then flown in a helicopter to the hospital.
The driver was Sebastian Kowzan, 28, of Arvada. He was also hurt, but not seriously.
The accident remains under investigation. It's not clear if Kowzan will face.
A neighbor told CBS4 she heard the truck and then the crash.
"I thought it was a truck going really fast with one of those trailers on it because it sounded really loud," Peggy Gibson said. "I thought to myself 'Boy, they are going really fast.' Then I heard a big crash and screaming."
The Colorado State Patrol hasn't said how fast the truck was going, but typical parking lot speed is about 15 mph, and it appeared the truck was going faster than that.
