Moody Shares Advice For Parking Around Coors Field

DENVER (CBS) - Heading out to the ball park can turn into an expensive venture even if you're only buying seats in the Rockpile but there are ways to save on parking. And those savings are directly in line with how far you are willing to walk.

The two best options for close-in parking are Lots A and B at Coors Field. They cost $12 to $14 and you can pay for parking in advance to guarantee a spot. The real problem is getting out, especially if you find yourself in the far B lot, you can expect to spend some time stuck in traffic after the game.

The closer you get to the stadium, the more you'll pay for parking. The parking lots closest to Coors Field will change their prices on game day so don't expect to pull into a lot to pay that $7 or $5 price you see advertised when you're cruising through downtown. Some of those lots will charge $20 or more.

Even being willing to walk three blocks could drop the game day price to $15, walking five blocks could get the price down to $10.

If you really know where to park and are willing to hoof it, you can actually find some free spots on the outskirts of the ballpark neighborhood.

Another way to avoid steep prices is to park close to the 16th Street Mall shuttle and catch a free ride all the way down to the Market Street station. That puts you just five blocks from Coors Field.

Light rail is an option for folks coming from the suburbs. It will cost you $4 to $10 for the ride and it's free parking in the lots on the southern end.

And RTD also offers a Rockies Ride which also drops you at the Market Street Station and costs between $4 and $5.

If you're a cyclist, you're really in luck. There is free bicycle parking right outside the A and B gates.
