Moody: 'Doyle & Debbie' Is A Satirical Salute To Country Music
DENVER (CBS4) - How about a lively musical comedy show that hearkens back to the days of Porter and Dolly, Tammy and George -- the great country music duos of the past? But CBS4 Critic at Large Greg Moody says "Doyle and Debbie" are so much more.
"'The Doyle and Debbie Show' is a salute to country music that's also a satire -- that also loves the form, but isn't afraid to make fun of it -- the music, the people, the style. It's a wild and very funny ride," Moody said.
"It is part homage, part satire," said Bruce Arntson, who plays Doyle. "It's satirical, but loving and friendly at the same time. You know, it has an attitude, it has a point of view."
With tunes like "Barefoot and Pregnant" and "Fat Women in Trailers," it's obvious they're making fun.
"It's the most fun I've ever had in my life," Arnston said. "I come out of here bouncing off the walls, it's so much fun."
At the same time the audience knows that country music has lots of room in the tent for makin' fun.
"Fast, funny, and incredibly clever, 'The Doyle and Debbie Show' is perfect entertainment for both country fans and those who can't stand the twang," Moody said. "Bring your pickup, your dog, and your deadbeat husband -- you'll have a blast."

"Frankly folks, I'm hit-and-miss on country music -- but this is a hit. Four numbers and I was laughing so hard I was in tears," Moody said.
Moody says the show is little risque and the appropriate age is about 14, 15 and up.
