McNay Fire Near Red Feather Lakes Forces Voluntary Evacuations
LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A wildfire flared up in Larimer County forcing some voluntary evacuations. The McNay Fire is burning near Red Feather Lakes.
The fire, initially reported to authorities just before noon Sunday, was estimated mid-day Monday to be 542 acres in size.
The Larimer County Sheriff's Office said 130 firefighting personnel and 11 aircraft were involved in the multi-agency operation to contain the blaze.
Firefighters reported the fire started as a vehicle fire which spread to surrounding vegetation.
As Copter4 flew over the fire Sunday afternoon, a burned-out pickup truck could be seen parked on the side of Larimer County Road 74E, also known as Red Feather Lakes Road. The Larimer County Sheriff's Office has yet to release details about the driver or the cause of the vehicle fire.
Those who choose to evacuate can gather at the Livermore Community Church. They are asked to text LCEVAC to 888777.
Residents are encouraged to move livestock and pets out of the area and to prepare for mandatory evacuations.
