'Matilda' Mom & Dad Actors Play Evil Characters, But It's 'A Lot Of Fun'
DENVER (CBS4) - The man and woman who plan Mrs. & Mr. Wormwood in "Matilda the Musical" which is now playing at Denver's Buell Theatre aren't bad people, but they enjoy playing bad people onstage.
Like many of the evil-but-fun characters in the musical, Cassie Silva and Quinn Mattfeld told CBS4 they actually love tearing the scenery apart and playing the horrible parents of the lead character of the show.
"It's a blast, and some of it's a guilty pleasure," Mattfeld said. "The more you yell at the kids the more they're just enjoying every second of it, because they're much better at playing than adults are. We have to re-learn how to play.
"It's so much fun," he said. "You get to be the loudest and the dumbest people in the room and everyone watches you do it. It's a lot of fun."
Critic at Large Greg calls "Matilda the Musical" a "show with an edge." See more of his reports on the show here.
"Matilda the Musical" at the Buell Theatre and runs through the Sept. 20. Tickets are available at denvercenter.org.
