Markey Says She Has No Regrets As She Leaves DC
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - Betsy Markey is leaving Congress after one tumultuous session but the Democrat says she has no regrets.
Markey was the first Democrat in 34 years to represent the 4th Congressional District, which covers northern and eastern Colorado. She lost by 12 points to Republican Cory Gardner in November.
He faulted her for voting in favor of health care reform and a cap-and-trade energy bill.
Markey told the Coloradoan that she doesn't think any one particular vote necessarily hurt her, and doubted that changing any of her votes would have made a difference in the election.
She said the only Democrat endorsed by the tea party, Rep. Walt Minnick of Idaho, was among the 63 Democrats who lost nationwide.
The new Congress will convene Wednesday.
