Man Makes His Mark In Business While Conserving Energy & Volunteering
CBS4 and the Denver Business Journal are teaming up to profile companies that are "Making Their Mark" in Colorado communities.
DENVER (CBS4) - The importance of conserving energy is a hot topic and one man is making his mark by doing just that.
"There are two foundations to our country, the constitution and energy. Without one or the other, we're in trouble," Sean Howley said.
Howley should know -- he's an advisor for Noble Energy.
"The truth is as a country we use a lot of energy. Sadly we're importing close to 11 million barrels of oil every single day. So that means we export close to a billion dollars a day," he said.
Howley says there's no reason we shouldn't be using alternative fuel sources like wind power harnessed at home.
"We need a sustainable way of using energy in our country."
That's where Howley wants to make his mark, although he admits there are challenges within his industry.
"We don't always do a good job of telling our story."
It's that story -- changing lives through energy -- that he loves about Noble Energy.
"Part of bettering people's lives, Noble really pushes people to get out there."
Howley has gotten out there and put his energy where his mouth is. He volunteers his time and resources with several organizations. Freedom Service Dogs is just one.
"They rescue dogs out of shelters and then to give them a second chance at life. They train them to help everyone from veterans to children, people with traumatic brain injuries to spinal cord injuries and everything in between."
He also volunteers for Outdoors Colorado. He says it's not about being rich, it's about being resourceful.
"I think sometimes we take it for granted. We think someone else is going to do this, somebody else will help, and that's not always the case. If you're not doing it, there may not be anyone else doing it. And the more we all come together to help out, the better the nation we're going to be.
