Armed Vet Shot, Killed By Police After Disturbance Call
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - A military veteran was transported to the hospital after being shot by police and later died.
Officers were called to the area of West Bates Avenue and Bannock Street in Englewood on a disturbance in a nearby parking lot.
"The SWAT team was called out. It was a barricaded gunman call, and now it's being investigated as an officer-involved shooting," said Englewood police spokesperson Kevin Sage.
When they arrived, the man barricaded himself inside a home with other people.
A witness told CBS4 the suspect held a gun to her friend's head inside the home. Police say all hostages walked away without any injuries.
A resident, who wished to be identified as Lincoln, lives across the street and said he heard two gunshots as the scene unfolded.
"Just a little bit afterward, I saw them wheeling off a guy into the ambulance, and (they) drove him off," Lincoln said. "I had some seen some sketchy things going on in the past, nothing to worry about, but I can't say that I'm surprised something happened."
No hostages or officers were injured in the incident.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
No names have been released.
