Man Convicted Of 1st Degree Murder In Aurora Shooting

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) — A jury has convicted a 24-year-old accused of shooting a man to death in front of his family in Aurora.

The Arapahoe County District Attorney's Office says Del Dawan Bankett was found guilty Wednesday of first-degree murder in the death of 22-year-old Arturo Arguelles-Chavez. Bankett is scheduled to be sentenced June 11.

Prosecutors say Arguelles-Chavez was shot twice in the chest and robbed as he met Bankett on Jan. 11, 2014, to buy an iPhone for $200. Arguelles-Chavez's wife and two young children were in the car at the time of the shooting.

Investigators later discovered that $190 in cash was missing from the Arguelles-Chavez's wallet. Bankett also was convicted of aggravated robbery and two sentence enhancements related to the violent crime and the use of a weapon.
