Passengers Call 911 After Man Allegedly Steals Summit County Bus
BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Summit County arrested a 23-year-old man overnight after he reportedly stole a public bus with passengers on it, crashed it and then walked off.
The Summit Stage bus service runs routes through the county. Late on Thursday night deputies got a report that someone had gotten in one of the buses while the driver had apparently stepped out and began driving it "erratically."
The incident happened in the River Run area of the Keystone ski resort, and there were several people on the bus at the time. Police said passengers called 911 when they realized what was going on.
Soon afterwards the bus apparently slid off Montezuma Road and got stuck.
After police arrived they found Joshua Mock walking down the road about a half mile away. Passengers allegedly identified Mock as the driver.
Officials with the Summit County Sheriff's office said Mock has "no known address." He tentatively faces a number of charges, including four counts of second degree kidnapping, aggravated motor vehicle theft and hindering public transportation. The charges also include a violation of bond conditions.
Mock appeared in court on Friday morning. He is being held in the Summit County Jail.
