Man Charged In Deadly Hit & Run Appears Before Judge
DENVER (CBS4)- A man charged in a deadly hit and run at 9th and Colorado appeared before a judge on Wednesday.
Police arrested Nathan Beechley on Tuesday. He is accused of killing Jonathan Lewis.
Lewis, 35, was struck about 2 a.m. Tuesday at 9th and Colorado.
Police say they found Lewis in the street. He died on scene just a few blocks from his home.
"Mr. Lewis had multiple injuries from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene," police said in a statement.
Police say evidence at scene such as car parts and tips from public absolutely led to the arrest of Beechley, 30. The car from the hit-and-run was also recovered in Aurora where the suspect lives.
"In this particular case, the information we received, once we started to develop that information, took us right to a certain location, and a certain person," Sgt. Mike Farr with Denver police said.
Beechley has a long arrest record including DUI and careless driving charges.
Police say hit-and-runs are spiking and they are very concerned about the trend. Last year Denver had 13 fatal hit-and-runs. Police are concerned Denver will surpass that number in 2013. So far there have been four fatalities in three incidents.
