Major Tree Removal Ongoing In Arvada
ARVADA, Colo. (CBS) - A park in Arvada is in the midst of getting a makeover.
Crews on Saturday took down 300 diseased and dead trees along Ralston Creek in Arvada. The city has been removing the trees between Ralston Road and Brooks Drive.
City officials are planning major renovations in the area, which include reconstructing the Garrison Street Bridge. The banks of Ralston Creek will also be rebuilt for flood control.
The change will mean that about 70 homeowners no longer have to carry flood insurance. Despite that, it's been hard for many people to see the trees go.
"It's a beautiful park and to see all of these beautiful trees have to be cut down is a disaster," said resident Eric Oaster.
Last month Arvada held a Tribute to the Trees ceremony that included a Native American blessing.
