Littleton Investigating Improper Use Of Employee Phone Recordings

LITTLETON, Colo. (CBS4)- The City of Littleton has asked the Arapahoe District Attorney to investigate possible abuse of employee phone recordings on department phones.

A new system was installed with the intent to help detectives and others by automatically recording conversations. The system was set up on more than two dozen phones.

Police employees were unaware they were being recorded. They learned of the practice after anonymous postings on the Littleton Gazette website.

"If anyone on that phone, before they had knowledge that phone was being recorded, could have had any conversation on that phone, with their wife, their mother, their doctor, kids. And nobody on that phone knew that they were being recorded for at least a certain amount of time," said Littleton Gazette reporter Jennifer Smith.

The city has already placed on individual on leave, but will not give any details on who or why.
