After Fatal Shooting In Walmart Parking Lot, Lakewood Officers Kill Gunman Nearby
LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Lakewood police officers shot and killed a man who fatally shot a person in a car in a Walmart parking lot on Friday morning. The initial shooting happened at 10:25 a.m. at the store at 4th and Wadsworth Boulevard and the killing of the shooter by police took place a short time later.
There were many shoppers at the Walmart at the time of the shooting. Witnesses told Lakewood police they saw a middle-aged man "shoot multiple rounds at a victim sitting in his car." The victim was a man in his 20s or 30s and hasn't been identified. So far it's not clear what might have led up to the violence.
Lakewood police said the shooter fled from the parking lot and across Wadsworth Boulevard, where he unsuccessfully attempted an armed carjacking of employees and customers at a Grease Monkey auto repair shop.
Responding officers arrived at the auto repair shop and the man ran into the neighborhood in the 7700 block of West 4th Avenue. Police say the man fired many times at police when they confronted him and the shots hit nearby property as well as a police vehicle. Officers then shot and killed the man. That person has not been identified.
No police officers were hurt.
Some homes near the second shooting scene reportedly have bullet holes in them.
