Jeffco Sergeant Remembered With Moment Of Silence 2 Years After His Death

By Kathy Walsh

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - On Jan. 26, 2014, Sgt. David Baldwin was killed. A wrong-way driver hit the Jefferson County deputy while he was patrolling on his motorcycle on Highway 93.

On Tuesday morning, the two year anniversary of Baldwin's death, Jefferson County deputies, members of the motor unit, lined up at the same time and in the same spot where Baldwin died. Jefferson County dispatch announced a moment of silence. It was a gesture of love for Baldwin and a show of support for his widow, Crystal.

"In some ways it feels like a really, really long time. In other ways, it's like it just happened yesterday," Crystal Baldwin told CBS4's Kathy Walsh.

The couple married in 2006. They shared a love of motorcycles and the mountains. When her husband was killed, Crystal told Walsh she lost her joy.

"I don't think you ever get that back," she said on Tuesday. "But I'm getting more glimpses than I was last year, a few more glimpses definitely than the year before."

Crystal's therapy has been working the last year to open Earth Sweet Botanicals, a new shop in Golden full of plant-based medicine, beauty and health products.

"The hardest part is doing it without him (Dave)," Crystal said.

But through her shop, she is connecting with people again. Crystal keeps busy organizing classes on aromatherapy, essential oils, and even beekeeping. She is planning her grand opening celebration for Saturday, Jan. 30. In her new shop filled with products that heal, Crystal Baldwin has found good medicine.
