It's Crunch Time For Denver Mayoral Candidates

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver residents have a little less than a week to vote for mayor.

The election is by mail-in ballot only, but there will also be 12 voter service centers where voters can drive in and drop off ballots starting Sunday.

There are three frontrunners right now in the race -- Michael Hancock, Chris Romer and James Mejia. All three were on the streets of Denver over the weekend for a last minute push to secure votes.

Watch an hour long debate between the mayoral candidates.

After canvassing neighborhoods all over his district Michael Hancock hit Washington Park just in time to catch families departing from an Easter egg hunt. He, like the other mayoral candidates, are trying to help voters put a face to the name.

"It's all about voter contact right now. We have been through downtown Denver, Five Points, Whittier neighborhood," Hancock said.

Hancock said his message is about creating jobs and creating quality schools and dealing with public safety and trust issues.

In a living room across town, James Mejia talked to a close-knit group of neighbors over coffee and pastries. It was one of many stops for him.

"Be part of democracy, get involved in this mayor's race; we're encouraging folks to take responsibility and opportunity to vote and make a voice for the next direction for Denver," Mejia said.

Chris Romer was also out canvassing the city -- traveling to ballot parties, and later in the day casting his vote.

"There are a lot of small businesses who need a friend in City Hall," Romer said. "I'm going to make City Hall faster, friendlier and smarter.
