Big Sections Of I-70 Closed In Mountain Corridor
GEORGETOWN, Colo. (CBS4)- The travel time from downtown Denver to the Eisenhower Tunnel is about five hours, according to CBS4 Meteorologist Chris Spears who was driving along Interstate 70 on Thursday evening. That time was estimated to be even longer after I-70 was closed in both directions at Dotsero.
Eastbound I-70 is closed at the Silverthorne exit and Vail Pass due to adverse conditions. Westbound I-70 is closed at Georgetown. The Colorado Department of Transportation announced several safety closures throughout the day Thursday due to multiple slide offs.
Parts of the mountains are expected to receive snow that can be measured in feet by midnight Friday.
Loveland Pass is currently closed at Eisenhower Tunnel due to adverse conditions.
There is no estimate for when those areas of the interstate will reopen. There have been intermittent closures along I-70 in both directions for crashes and winter driving conditions throughout Thursday afternoon and evening. Conditions are not expected to improve. The Winter Storm Warning continues through midnight Friday.
