I-25 reopens south of Denver after multiple crashes, including one involving fire truck

Interstate 25 reopened early Wednesday morning in both directions near Castle Rock between Denver and Colorado Springs after a crash on Tuesday night. The Colorado Department of Transportation initially reported the crash and closure around 8:30 p.m.

All lanes reopened about 4:30 a.m. according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. 

By 9:15 p.m., traffic cameras still showed an active scene with flashing emergency lights and traffic backed up in both directions.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office offered few details but said the crashes occurred between mile markers 174 and 181.

Around 9:40 p.m., a Colorado State Patrol spokesman told CBS News Colorado that at least one fire engine was involved in one of those crashes. He said there were at least three crashes in total and one of them involved four vehicles while another involved three.

Icy conditions were somewhat to blame in at least some of these crashes, according to CSP. No serious injuries were reported.

And near Northglenn, north of Denver, icy conditions and at least one crash had all southbound lanes and some northbound lanes of I-25 closed on Tuesday night.
