Department Of Corrections Escapee Captured
DENVER (CBS4) - A Colorado Department of Corrections parolee who escaped during a transfer from one facility to the next in Denver is back in custody.
According to the DOC, Benjamin Knight, 26, escaped late Thursday morning from a vehicle in the area of 46th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard, according to authorities.
Denver police, along with officers from Wheat Ridge and with the DOC, were involved in the search for Knight. The search effort lasted approximately an hour and Knight was apprehended just before 12:30 p.m. in an alley between Yates and Xavier.
"One of the cop cars blocked off 46th and Xavier," said witness Brittney Chowning.
She watched the whole thing happen from her book store.
"There were some cops with some long guns out but I didn't notice them until they came in the store just to make sure we were okay," said Chowning. "We locked the door because we figured they had to be looking for somebody and so just to be safe we locked the door."
"Knight was on parole after serving time in the Department of Corrections for robbery and drug abuse," the DOC said in a statement.
Knight was arrested on Wednesday in Denver on a parole violation. His criminal record contains robbery and drug-related offenses.
