Hundreds Line Up For Jobs At Elitch Gardens
DENVER (CBS4) - Hundreds of people lined up at Elitch Gardens to interview for summer jobs on Saturday. A few applicants were hired on the spot.
"I've applied to many, many places and I either don't get emails back or they say I'm not the right person for the job," applicant Patrick Doak said.
Inside a number of teens all hoped to snag one of the many part-time jobs at the park. Still, CBS4 found a handful of adults trying to make ends meet as the economy rebounds.
"I work at Arby's right now, part-time, but with the extra money I get from here I'll make sure I keep my apartment and everything else going on in my life," applicant Robin Taggert said.
It was a successful interview for Taggert. She was one of the many lucky ones who received a golden ticket and was hired on the spot.
"Now I can go home and tell my partner that, 'Hey, I got some more work in,' " Taggert said.
Rick Munoz, 52, will join Taggert and the nearly 1,500 others hired for a seasonal job. Job fairs are hope for those who desperately need the extra income.
"I think it's a sign that the economy is improving a little bit. Since last year we had about 10,000 applicants for 1,500 positions," Chris Kearsing with Elitch Gardens said. "This year we've had fewer applicants, however we'll have no trouble filling our 1,500 spots."
No matter their age, the applicants are just excited for an opportunity to go to work.
"There are a lot of people out there who don't have a lot of work that do need it," Taggert said.
About 700 people applied during Saturday's job fair. Elitch Gardens is also rehiring employees who worked at the amusement park last summer. It opens to the public in May.
