Horse Killed In Northern Colorado, Shooting Suspected

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - The Routt County Sheriff's Department says a horse found dead in a pasture south of Steamboat Springs had apparently been shot.

Deputies say they found a puncture wound and an exit wound on the horse's neck, indicating it was likely a shooting. Deputies say they didn't find any shell casings or other evidence of what type weapon was used.

The horse was owned by Justine Ager of Phippsburg, a small town south of Steamboat Springs.

Ager tells the Steamboat Springs Pilot & Today newspaper the horse was killed June 28. The 17-year-old horse was named Cadillac.

Ager says she's upset and hopes the incident was accidental.
