Home Invasion Leads To Hostage Situation And Chase
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) – A home invasion in Jefferson County led to a hostage situation and police chase that ended in Denver early Saturday morning.
It started in the 16900 block of West 73rd Place where police say two men broke into a home around 12:30 a.m.
"Two men had come into the home and forced their way in with handguns," said Jefferson County Sheriff spokesman Mark Techmeyer.
Inside the home was a couple and a male roommate. Officials say the suspects forced the woman and the roommate to get inside a car. Then one of the suspects reportedly climbed into the back of the car and ordered the hostages to drive.
Police say at that time the other suspect disappeared and they don't know what happened to them. It was at that point the victim left in the home called police reporting his wife and friend kidnapped and his car stolen.
The car was traveling along Interstate 70 when a Mountain View Police officer spotted it. A chase then ensued that would end in a crash at 28th Avenue and Stout Street in Denver. Police say the suspect got out of the vehicle and ran and police were not able to find him.
The victims were not badly injured and police are looking for one black man and one Hispanic man. Both are in their 20s and were last seen wearing hoodies and bandannas.
The victim who called police said the suspects pistol whipped him, giving him a gash in him head while asking for money.
Authorities are now looking into whether the suspects and the victims knew each other.
"A statements was made that this group of people are involved together in some type of marijuana business and at this point we're still trying to determine what type of business that was," said Techmeyer.
The victim denied that he knew the suspects and said they're victims of a random crime. He told CBS4 that they plan on moving from the neighborhood because while the street may look quiet, to him it's just not safe.
