Historic Building Burns In Grand Junction

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) -- Fire has destroyed a portion of Grand Junction's historic White Hall.

Firefighters said the main portion of the building was gutted to the basement, but the fire did not reach the newer additions on the east side.

According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, one firefighter fell through the first floor into the basement, where he was rescued by colleagues. The firefighter was not injured.

Home to the first Presbyterian Church of Grand Junction, the original church structure was lost in a fire in 1890. A new church was built in 1900.

The building has also been used for offices, classes, and community functions
