You may have been wondering why gay marriage was on the ballot this year, even though it's legal in Colorado and across the country.

Amendment J, which Colorado voters approved on Election Day, simply removes old language in the state constitution regarding the definition of marriage.

The amendment was placed on the ballot by state lawmakers.
