Garage Explosion Injures 1 In Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Lakewood firefighters are trying to figure out why a garage exploded in flames Saturday afternoon.

The explosion happened in the 1300 block of Garrison Street just before 3 p.m. West Metro Fire said part of the roof was blown off. The man inside was able to escape the flames. He was rushed to University of Colorado Hospital with burns and is listed in critical condition.

People from around the block came running to help.

"We heard some loud noises -- fireworks or gunshots, and then we saw the flames as we were walking down the street with all the fire trucks sitting here," neighbor Ryan Liggett said.

An RV next to the garage was damaged.

The man told firefighters he had butane and rubbing alcohol in the garage.

No one else was hurt.
