Fort Collins Explores ID Checking System To Curb Bar Trouble
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - Old Town Fort Collins may soon have a new system in place to catch customers who cause trouble.
Bars and the police department are considering an ID checking system that will keep track of everyone who enters a bar. The scanners would be networked, making it easier for businesses and officers to track down those who start fights or cause other problems in the area.
"Since they're communicating through the ID scanning system it will communicate to the other bar that this person had been removed from another liquor establishment downtown," Sgt. Jeremy Yonce with Fort Collins Police Services said.
As many as 5,000 people go out to Old Town Fort Collins on a weekend night.
The city is contacting companies that make the equipment to see how much a system would cost.
