Fliers Offer Curb Painting, No Contact Information
LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - A flier that is showing up on doorsteps this summer offers to paint house numbers on the curb for safety purposes. It's a service residents don't have to do.
The flier indicates that by having a house number painted on the curb in front of a house the resident be helping the fire department find the home in case of an emergency. But a 4 On Your Side Consumer Investigation found that the work wasn't being done by the City of Lakewood. It isn't required by West Metro Fire District, and the Homeowners Association doesn't ask that it be done.
"What caught me right away was that there was no company name, no phone number, no address … nobody to call if there was a complaint or question," said Jay Foxx, a resident who received the flier.
Foxx is concerned that whoever is behind the flier is targeting older neighbors who can least afford to pay for this service.
The flier does call the service "optional" and you don't have to pay for the work before it's done. CBS4 found neighbors who've had this done in the past without a problem. But it's not a requirement.
"I think if they want it done, they should call a reputable painter to come and paint their own numbers," Foxx said.
