Firefighters Cut Through Roof After Family Escapes From Burning Home

DENVER (CBS4) - Two adults and two children were displaced on Monday after an early morning fire.

The home is located at 49th Avenue and St. Paul Street, north of Interstate 70 and west of Vasquez Boulevard.

After firefighters arrived at approximately 6 a.m. they had to make a cut in the attic. They cut a hole to ventilate some of the smoke and heat inside the home.

It appears the fire started in the garage and moved to the attic.

No one was injured in the fire.

Firefighters say the cause of the fire was due to an outlet that was recently installed. Investigators say something was wrong with the home's power box, and or the new outlet, which lead to an electrical fire. Now firefighters are warning homeowners that circuit breakers trip for a reason, and if one repeatedly trips, check with a licensed professional as it could lead to a fire and loss of life.

"The breakers were tripped and the owner flipped them back on," a firefighter said. "Leave them off and contact a certified electrician so that they can handle that problem in the right way."
