Firefighters Battle House Fire In Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- West Metro Firefighters battled a house fire Wednesday afternoon in unincorporated Jefferson County.

The large fire broke out at about 3:15 p.m. in the 16000 block of Mountain Bluebird Way in the Willow Springs neighborhood near Morrison. Firefighters rushed to the scene after hearing reports of an explosion.

Firefighters arrived 20 minutes later to a garage that was fully engulfed in flames.

Three school-age girls were seen leaving the home. They were not harmed.

It took firefighters about 40 minutes to extinguish the fire. Most of the damage was contained to the garage. Investigators estimate about $150,000 worth of damage.

They are investigating what sparked the fire but believe it was an unattended portable space heater in the garage.

Wednesday's chilly temperatures didn't hamper firefighting efforts to put out the fire. They were able to get their hoses working.
