Fire In Wheat Ridge Considered 'Suspicious'

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. (CBS4)- Investigators are trying to figure out how a suspicious fire started outside a warehouse in Wheat Ridge early Friday morning. That fire melted box trucks marked "Premier Garage" but the company now goes by the name "Colorado Space Solutions."

Investigators believe the fire was set between two of the trucks that quickly caught fire.

"There were a lot of ignitable fuels involved in this and the timing of it at this time, it's looking suspicious," said Arvada Fire Department spokeswoman Deanna Harrington.

Copter4 flew over the warehouse at 11427 Interstate 70 frontage road on Friday morning. The location is in a portion of Wheat Ridge that is covered by the Arvada Fire Department.

Firefighters from Arvada rushed to the scene at about 4:30 a.m. They found two of the trucks on fire, a third one was damaged. It took firefighters from Arvada about 15 minutes to get the fire under control.

A dashboard camera caught the flames.

"You could classify this as unusual. Anytime you get a car fire in the middle of the night, it would be considered strange," said Arvada Fire Department spokesman Scott Pribble. "We are not ruling anything out."

Firefighters said the main priority was saving the warehouse. The exterior of the building was damaged by the heat from the fire, but everything inside was unharmed.

Flammable materials were stored inside the garage, including epoxy and zyline. The fire contaminated a nearby pond.

"We do have a bit of a hazmat situation. There is a water retention pond and some of the gasoline ended up there," said Pribble.

That pond is being treated.

Colorado Space Solutions is not commenting on the fire while the investigation continues.
