Federal Courthouse Getting Makeover
DENVER (CBS4)- Denver's old federal courthouse and office building is about to get a green makeover.
Until recently, the Byron G. Rogers Federal Office Building and U.S. Courthouse, 1961 Stout St. in downtown Denver, was home to eleven federal agencies.
Those agencies have moved to other offices to allow for a $140 million overhaul of the 620,000 square foot building.
New mechanical systems will be installed, asbestos will be removed and energy-efficient windows will be installed.
"We're going to hopefully reduce our utility expenses by more than 70 percent, so we'll be saving taxpayer dollars by not only saving money on our utility costs but also improving air quality," said Sue Damour with U.S. General Services Administration.
Money from the Federal Recovery Act is paying for the improvements to the 1960s-era building.
