Family, Friends, Fellow Officers Remember Jeremy Bitner
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4)- There was an outpouring of support for the family of fallen Englewood Police Officer Jeremy Bitner on Friday.
He was remembered during funeral services at the First Church of the Nazarene in Englewood before his funeral procession to Fort Logan National Cemetery where he was laid to rest.
Bitner, 39, and a motorist he had pulled over were struck by an SUV shortly after midnight Monday. The motorist survived.
Officers from across Colorado attended Bitner's service in full uniform.
Bitner's wife said her husband's death has hurt an entire community.
"I keep hoping I'll wake up from this nightmare. But I'm not the only one suffering," said Tina Bitner. "I will miss you. I will take care of our children and I will love you forever."
"We all know and recognize the characteristics ," said First Church of the Nazarene Dan Dirney.
Bitner was on track to rise to the highest levels in the Englewood Police Department.
Englewood Police Chief John Collins gave Bitner his final promotion, "I hearby appoint Jeremy Bitner to the rank of detective immediately."
During the service a letter from one of Bitner's children was read stating it was fitting that he died on Memorial Day because he was a true hero.
