Ex-Broomfield Coach Found Guilty Of Sex Assault

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4/AP) - A former Broomfield High School teacher and wrestling coach accused of having sex with a student has been convicted of sexual assault on a child by someone in a position of trust.

The Daily Camera reports that Travis Masse, 29, showed little emotion as the verdict was read Tuesday. Masse was also convicted of sexual assault on a child by someone in a position of trust with a pattern of abuse.

He faces a life term when sentenced July 21.

Former students testified during a four-day trial that Masse had sent sexual text messages.

One student said she and Masse had sex while she was underage. Masse admitted to texting but denied there was sexual contact.

"It's more complicated than I ever could have imagined because there are no winners here," the father of the victim said. "There are victims, and more victims, and I'm proud of the victims for coming forward; I think that took a lot of guts. My heart goes out to the Masse family too. This has been no fun for anyone."

The father said he had been friends with Masse.

Masse goes to trial later this month on charges of attempted sexual contact with a child.
