Elvis Dumervil Faces Release If He Doesn't Take Pay Cut
DENVER (CBS4) - There's a chance that Elvis may leave the building.
The Denver Broncos want Elvis Dumervil to take a pay cut, and if he doesn't accept, CBS4's Vic Lombardi was told they might release him.
It's all up to the negotiators. Dumervil is due to make $12 million next season. He's technically under contract for the next three seasons for a grand total of $31 million. The Broncos want him to take less.
If they can't work something out in the next week the Broncos will take a long look at Dwight Freeney, who souces say they're interested in.
Freeney is 33 years old and his better days are likely behind him. But if they can sign Freeney for half the price of Dumervil, they're very interested.
Peyton Manning wouldn't mind having Freeney on the team since they were teammates in Indianapolis. Freeney said Manning has already texted him to come to Denver.
Dumervil is a three-time Pro Bowler. He had 11 sacks last season. The Broncos hope to get the deal done by March 17.
