Educators Spruce Up Denver Schools As Part Of NEA Visit
DENVER (CBS4) - Educators from across the country banded together to refurbish two Denver schools on Monday.
As part of the National Education Association's visit to Colorado, approximately 400 teachers, administrators and support staff painted murals, improved landscaping and cleaned the Mathematics and Science Leadership Academy and Valverde Elementary School in southwest Denver.
At the MSLA school, volunteers remodeled the teacher's lounge, repainted portions of the school, and built raised flower and vegetable beds.
"This simply means a great deal for our teachers and our educators. It shows how much we appreciate our students. It's to make sure it's a welcoming place for our students, for our teachers, the community and our parents," Henry Roman, the president of the Denver Classroom Teachers Association, said. "You can see a physical difference."
The program is part of the NEA's Outreach to Teach effort. Now in its 19th year, the program is funded through the NEA's budget and sponsors.
MLSA is one of the NEA's priority schools, one of 40 across the nation that the union is focusing on to raise students' achievement.
