Durango Wildfire Blamed On Fireplace Ashes
DURANGO, Colo. (AP) - Authorities say an 8-acre wildfire that threatened several houses in Durango was caused by hot ashes from a fireplace that were dumped in an uncovered outdoor pit.
Pam Wilson of Durango Interagency Fire Dispatch tells the Durango Herald that gusty winds fanned the ashes into a fire on Tuesday. It was contained on Wednesday.
Wilson didn't identify who left the ashes. She says it's the third recent fire caused by fireplace ashes.
