Dreamliner Prepares To Take Off From DIA
DENVER (CBS4)- United Airlines new Boeing 787, dubbed the "Dreamliner," will take off from Denver International Airport in just a few days.
Passengers will be able to stretch out on the 787 Dreamliner on flights to Houston starting Sunday. The Dreamliner will fly to Tokyo beginning in March 2013.
The pilots said the Boeing 787s are a dream to fly, super smooth and very quiet. Plus, all the information they need is at their fingertips.
The crew also anticipates a much smoother boarding because of all the extra space.
"The work environment for us is incredible. We have the huge overhead bins, we have lay flat seats. Our customers are going to enjoy it so much," said United Airlines In-Flight Supervisor Cheryl Carney.
The Dreamliner offers slightly higher humidity in the cabin. Because it is mostly made of composite materials that won't corrode, more moisture in the air is not a problem.
The cabin is pressured to a lower altitude than other jets - 6,000 feet above sea level instead of 8,000 feet. That should at least slightly reduce passenger fatigue, dry eyes and headaches, lessening the impact of jet lag for some people.
Engines are quieter than older jets, air filtration is better, lighting is cool and both overhead bins and cabin windows are huge.
United is the first U.S. airline to fly the plane. Japan's All Nippon Airways Co. was the first airline to fly 787s last year.
The Dreamliner made a quick stop at DIA on Thursday before it begins regularly-scheduled departures and arrivals at the airport.
