Detective Improving After Shootout
PARKER, Colo. (CBS4) - Douglas County Detective Dan Brite continues to improve after he was injured in a shootout earlier this month.
Brite was injured in the line of duty Sept. 2 during a shootout with a suicidal man in Parker.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office tweet sent out on Thursday, "Brite continues to improve. He's awake and alert and is able to communicate with his family."
The sheriff's office released this entire statement on Brite's recovery on Friday: "We are happy to announce that Detective Dan Brite continues to make steps towards improvement. He is awake and alert, and is able to communicate with his family, which is great! He is now eating and breathing on his own as well. Never would we have imagined that just three weeks after the shooting Dan would be doing so well. We are truly grateful. Although Dan is progressing, he still faces a long road to recovery.
The continued prayers and support of the community have been instrumental in Dan's healing process and has been extremely helpful for his family.
We would like to thank everyone who has supported the Brite Family and those who have shown their support for the Sheriff's Office."
Deputies shot and killed suspect Randall Rodick, 40, when he fired at officers and injured Brite.
