Denver Receives Accreditation From Emergency Management Accreditation Program

DENVER (CBS4) - The Denver Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (OEM) on Tuesday announced that Denver has received accreditation by the Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP).

Denver OEM helps coordinate the city's response to and recovery from disasters and emergencies.

"Our team has worked diligently to make sure that Denver is prepared to respond to whatever may affect the safety, health and well-being of our community," Scott Field, Director of the Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, said in a statement. "This is a major achievement for Denver and places us among the top cities in the nation in terms of our ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and emergencies."

EMAP is a voluntary accreditation process for emergency management programs that coordinate preparedness and response activities for disasters.

The State of Colorado received EMAP accreditation in 2009.
