Denver Mayoral Candidate Hancock: 'I Flubbed It'

DENVER (CBS4)- Denver Mayoral Candidate Michael Hancock said he "messed up."

The blunder came Thursday during a debate at East High School. Hancock and opponent Chris Romer were asked if creationism should be taught in public school.

Hancock responded, "Yes."

Romer responded, "No.'

Hancock later said he misunderstood the question.

"I made a mistake, I flubbed it. The reality is that I don't believe creationism or intellectual design belongs in the public classroom," said Hancock.

"You know, I'm going to let the voters decide that, but there is an emerging pattern between what gets said initially and then what gets cleaned up by the campaign," said Romer.

This is the second time Hancock has had to clarify his position. In an earlier debate, when asked if he believed in evolution, his initial answer was he believed in God.
