Denver Mayor Doesn't Support Bag Fee

DENVER (CBS4)- Denver's mayor is opposed to a proposed bag fee in Denver for plastic and paper shopping bags.

Mayor Michael Hancock said he didn't support the proposal.

Denver City Council has discussed charging five cents for those shopping bags in hopes of encouraging shoppers to bring their own reusable bags.

For every bag used 2 cents goes to the store and 3 cents will go to the city to help cover the city's environmental costs.

Hancock even hinted that he would veto the ordinance.

He said a master plan on eliminating waste would be a more effective way of protecting the environment.
