Denver Health Makes Mother's Day Extra Special For New Mothers
DENVER (CBS4) - Denver Health Medical Center made Sunday an extra special Mother's Day for new mothers as the hospital threw a baby shower.
It was a special Mother's Day for Ebonie Lindsay. The first-time mother just gave birth Friday to beautiful Judaya at Denver Health.
"It's a little bit overwhelming, but happy nonetheless," Lindsay said. "Lack of sleep and I don't know, just the excitement of it and everything."
With Lindsay not having a full-time job, buying all the things necessary for little Judaya's first few days of life could be a little difficult. Thanks to Denver Health and people in the community, she was given her own baby shower.
"It means the world to these moms. It's very challenging to be a new mother under the best of circumstances, but if you're financially stretched it can be a real, real challenge," Robin Engleberg with the Denver Health Foundation said.
It was all part of the Newborns In Need program. Each deserving mother is given a baby bag with necessary baby items, including a baby blanket, onesies, and much needed diapers.
Lindsay couldn't be happier.
"I felt special because you don't get that every day. They don't do that at every hospital," she said.
The items were donated to the many mothers delivering at Denver Health over the weekend and year round. It made for an extra special Mother's Day as little Judaya gets to go home with her mother for the first time.
Every year about 3,500 babies are born at Denver Health. Unfortunately, about 90 percent are born to families that live below poverty.
