Crews Fully Contain Wildfire In Southern Colorado

SANFORD, Colo. (AP) - Crews have fully contained a 925-acre wildfire in southern Colorado that at one point threatened the historic Pike's Stockade.

The wind-driven Stockade Fire was reported Sunday afternoon south of Alamosa. Its cause remained under investigation Tuesday.

No structures burned, but U.S. Forest Service spokesman Mike Blakeman says that at one point, the fire threatened several buildings including Pike's Stockade, a national historic landmark where Zebulon Pike had camped in the early 1800s.

The fire burned through grass, willows and cottonwoods on private and public land.
