State Trooper Struck, Killed By Truck While On Duty

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (CBS4) - A Colorado State Patrol trooper was struck by a truck and killed while he was on duty and outside his vehicle on Interstate 25 Friday afternoon.

The crash took place at 1:30 p.m. south of Castle Rock near Tomah Road north of Larkspur. Trooper Cody Donahue was investigating a crash at the time with another trooper when he was killed.

Authorities said they expected to make an arrest of the driver of the truck sometime Friday night.

The northbound lanes of the highway were closed as an extensive investigation was launched. They aren't expected to reopen until sometime in the overnight hours.

Crime tape was strewn across the highway and Copter4 video showed a flag draped over Donahue's body before it was removed from the scene.

Donahue leaves behind two young children and his wife. He was an 11-year veteran of the Colorado State Patrol.

The Colorado State Patrol sent out a tweet saying simply "EOW" -- which stands for End Of Watch.
