Colorado Republican Convicted Of Multiple Voting
CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) - A suburban Denver man has been convicted of voting twice in county elections in 2008 and again in 2009.
The Denver Post reports Monday that 69-year-old David Harold Shackley was convicted of voting twice, a misdemeanor. Prosecutors say the registered Republican voted early in Denver County in 2008, then turned in a mail-in ballot in Arapahoe County for the same election. A county investigator gave Shackley a warning.
In 2009, authorities say Shackley moved to Adams County and changed his mailing address. But Shackley was mailed ballots in both Adams and Arapahoe counties and returned both ballots, despite the 2008 warning about not voting twice.
The Post says Shackley will be sentenced Sept. 15. Shackley faces a fine or up to 18 months in jail.
