Colorado Man Leads Wyoming Troopers On Wild Car Chase
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A Colorado man led Wyoming state troopers on a wild high-speed chase along two interstates and into the prairie before he was finally captured, authorities said Sunday.
Ken Movellan, 47, of Berthoud, Colo., faces numerous charges, including felony aggravated assault on a peace officer and driving under the influence, said Wyoming state Sgt. Stephen Townsend.
It wasn't immediately known Sunday if Movellan had an attorney.
Movellan was arrested Saturday after leading troopers north on Interstate 25, 15 miles east on Interstate 80, into the prairie south of Interstate 80 and along Laramie County roads. Townsend said Movellan tried several times to ram state troopers' vehicles head-on during the chase before his vehicle broke down.
Wyoming troopers laid down spike strips to try to stop Movellan's vehicle on Interstate 80, Townsend said. Some 15 miles east of Cheyenne, Movellan drove off the highway, through a fence, and into the prairie, he said.
Troopers lost sight of the 1995 GMC pickup truck several times during the hour-long chase, Townsend said. Troopers and Laramie County Sheriff's deputies eventually surrounded the vehicle and arrested Movellan, he said.
The chase began earlier Saturday near Wellington, Colo., when Larimer County Sheriff's deputies pursued the pickup north on Interstate 25 following a report of a vehicular hit and run, Townsend said.
Colorado authorities turned the pursuit over to Wyoming troopers at the state line, about 25 miles north of Welllington.
The Larimer County Sheriff's Department could not immediately provide information because most if its resources were devoted Sunday to the wildfire burning west of Fort Collins.
